Isabel Harnden
Isabel Harnden is a Central Coast NSW based, Australian artist. In 2018, Harnden graduated from UNSW Art and Design with a BFA (distinction) majoring in painting extension. Her work explores the complicated inter-relationships between form and colour as she experiments with mark making to represent unique patterns and textures represented within the people and places she has lived, including her Newcastle upbringing, experiences teaching out west in Cowra and most recently her current residence of Central Coast NSW. Her paintings evoke a sense of nostalgia and wonder as she combines a range of coastal and rural environments with figurative painting techniques. Through exploring evocative colour palettes and varying application styles of oil paint Harnden captures the unique character of the Central Coast and broader Australian landscape. Harnden uses intuitive painterly techniques with a mix of brushwork and palette knives to highlight delicate intricacies of form and texture within Australian landscapes and scenes. Harnden’s paintings evoke a sense of charm with their combination of contrasting line work.
